‘A woman with good shoes is never ugly’ Coco Chanel

Once you have found ‘The dress’ your attention will no doubt turn to your wedding shoes and may I say – You can never have too many!

Dresses require heels – the more important the garment, the higher your shoes need to be. Most brides want to feel comfortable on their big day but it is not advisable to avoid some form of heel for your grand entrance. It is also vital you take a pair of heels to dress shops as you will get a much better impression of any dresses you try on. Heels change your posture and elongate your legs, making you look taller and often slimmer – a must for any bride!

That being said a lot of women live in flats, and get a nosebleed at the sight of platform heels, so it is important that you feel comfortable and make sure you can walk and, if possible, dance in your new glamourous shoes. Try to aim for around 2-3 inches heel and practice walking around in them at home, or at work, to wear them in.

If you are a 6inch or nothing kind of girl then aim for a lovely pair of platforms that are well made and fit beautifully. Again practice wearing them and make sure they do not slide on the floor of your venue – no matter how confident you are in heels, you are no match for a slippery floor and gravity!

As you will be the centre of attention, and the dance floor, for at least 9 hours, I do recommend every bride looks at taking some comfy shoes for her reception. Some pretty flats to wear with a short dress or some hidden, but amazing, trainers are a great back up if your feet or legs are getting tired.

Some brides provide their guests with flip flops for the evening party as a favour, for winter weddings slippers are a great alternative, so you may want to ditch your shoes with you guests and hit the dance floor in some favour flats.

For brides who get married on a beach, or similar uneven terrain, heels are not really an option. Even with heel stoppers, marvellous inventions that stop your shoes sinking into grass, it is unlikely you can walk confidently. Best to invest in a pretty pair of flat sandals or some foot jewellery to match your floaty frock.

TarniaShoes1As I am keeping my dress a secret for most of my guests and my groom – I can’t show pictures on my blog. However I am proudly displaying my wedding shoes.

These are my crystal (strassed) platform wedding shoes! I designed them myself!

TarniaShoes2These are ‘Meggitt’ by Aldo – No. 1 selling shoes at Aldo last month. I am taking them on my hen do to Amsterdam – hence the matching bag – and should they survive, wearing them under my dress at the wedding reception.
